Small green hills and clear water lake in the middle. The lake is surrounded by mountains, the lake is spreading beauty by holding the mountains. One such green Maya magical place is called Mahamaya Lake. 

This artificial lake is the second largest artificial lake in the country located in Durgapur Union of Mirsarai Upazila, 45 km away from Chittagong city, next to Dhaka Chittagong highway. 

This Mahamaya of about 11 square kilometers has all the charms including clear water lake, cold water spring, green hills and blue sky. You will not believe it is an artificial lake. Ecopark has been developed around the lake. There is a rubber dam. The crooked lake in the lap of the hill is very beautiful. 

This Mahamaya Lake is located between small and large hills. One of the attractions of this lake is the mountain spring and its clear water. It looks like a green blanket is spread around its reservoir. 

A very beautiful place to forget busy work and spend time with nature, calm and free from public noise. Besides boating around the lake, you can sit in a quiet place and fish with a spear if you want. Of course, for this you need to take the year in advance. 

You can see small dinghy boats or motor boats in the blue waters of Mahamaya Lake. With this boat you can take a family ride in the clear waters of the lake and get lost in the lake's exquisite beauty. 

This boat trip can cost around 500-1000 rupees and about 40 rupees per person. 

Sitting on a boat, the mountains and huge water around Mahamaya Lake will impress you. In the afternoon, when the sun sinks into the final blue, the atmosphere of the lake is very beautiful. 

Mahamaya Lake is a great place for a picnic with family or friends. You can also cook and eat here if you want. If you want in the vast land of the lake, everyone can organize various games together. 

On the way to Mahamaya Lake, you will see the amazing beauty of Sitakunda's Chandranath Hill. But you have to keep another day to go to Chandranath. If you want to visit Mahamaya Lake in one day, you can leave the rest of the day for the beautiful campus of private university IIUC in Chittagong and Bhatiari. In Bhatiari you will find clear water lake and army controlled golf course. 

How to go

By road from Dhaka to Mahamaya – 

BRTC buses depart from Dhaka Kamalapur Terminal. And other AC, Non AC buses leave from Syedabad bus station. You can go by buses such as Saudia, Greenline, Silk Line, Sohag, Bagdad Express, Unique etc. Fare in AC buses is Tk 850-1100. Chaircoach bus fare of RS Alam, Saudia, Unique, Shyamoli, Hanif, Eagle etc. is Tk 400-500. All buses stop at Mirsarai. From Mirsarai bus stand one has to take a CNG autorickshaw or any other vehicle to Thakurdighi Bazar and enter Mahamaya through the eastern road. 

However, it is better to talk about the rent beforehand. If you come from Dhaka to see Mahamaya lake, then if you take a night train, you can see Mahamaya in the morning and stay in Chittagong city in the afternoon, or you can visit Chittagong city and leave by train or bus at night. It will take about 2 hours to go from Mahamaya to Chittagong city. 

Chittagong to Mahamaya – 

Buses going to different districts of the country including Dhaka depart from Alankar, AK Khan, Karnelhat bus stations. And the buses of different routes within the district leave from Motherbari, Kadmatoli bus station. If you want to come from Chittagong to Mirsrai, you have to travel by buses on the internal route of the district. It will take 1 hour from Alankar City Gate by any local bus. Rent 40 to 70 taka. And if you want to go separately, then you can go by CNG auto rickshaw or microbus, in which case the fare can be expected to be 1000 to 1400. 

By car from the city you have to get down at Thakur Dighi Bazar at Mirsrai Police Station. From there on foot, if you want, you can go to CNG, auto rickshaw or any other vehicle from Mirsrai bus stand. It will be easier if you have a car with you. 

Feni to Mahamaya – 

Noakhali, Comilla Parashuram, Chandpur and Feni buses ply from Feni town to Chittagong. You can reach Mirsarai or Thakurdighi by any bus. 

Chittagong by Rail:

By train on Dhaka-Chittagong route, Mahanagar Prabhati leaves Dhaka at 7:40 am, Chattla Express leaves Dhaka at 9:20 am, Mahanagar Godhuli leaves Dhaka at 3 pm, Suvarna Express leaves Dhaka at 4:20 pm, Turna leaves Dhaka at 11 pm. Rent 160 to 1100 taka. Sonar Bangla Express is newly added. Which goes to Chittagong non-stop. 

After that follow Mahamaya's directions from Chittagong. 

Food and accommodation

It is better to take food with you before going to Mahamaya Lake. Alternatively, there are several hotels in Mirsarai Bazar where you can eat in or take out a package. 

There are no good quality hotels around Hamaya Lake. But there are some hotels in Mirsrai Baraiyarhat worth staying. 

You can come and stay in Chittagong city if you want. There are several quality hotels in the city at GOC Mor, Lovelane, Newmarket, Station Road. You can stay in these hotels with your family. The quality of food in these hotels is also very good. 

A few precautions before going down to the lake- 

If you don't know how to swim, definitely don't go into the lake water. Do not throw non-perishable or bottled products into the lake water. If you go around the lake by boat, you will enjoy the natural environment sitting inside the boat. If you take your camera, you can capture some beautiful pictures of the lake.
